Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. –Romans 12:2
You’re Already Amazing is the first of Holley Gerth’s books that I read. It was one of a trio of books that profoundly impacted my faith, steering me onto a path of understanding and freedom. (The other two are Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts and Renee Swope’s A Confident Heart.)
Holley’s words in particular opened my eyes to who I am in Christ. The book is a tool which helped me break through crippling anxiety. It revealed where my thoughts were legalistic and where I was being incredibly hard on myself.
I couldn’t have imagined that You’re Already Amazing would open the door to so many good things:
- Inspiration for a blog series on overcoming overwhelming fear and anxiety
- Attending the Allume Christian women’s blogging conference 3 times
- Applying and being accepted to Holley launch team for her book You’re Made for a God-sized Dream
- Cultivating some of my deepest friendships in the launch team
- Launching the God-sized Dreams web-site with Holley on our team, and more.
Of course, it is the personal growth and deep understanding of the love God has for me and others that became the main fruit of these incredible experiences.
Holley is one of those rare souls who exudes warmth and authenticity. She is in person who she is in her books. She’s a tremendous blessing to me, so when there’s an opportunity to support her, it’s a no-brainer.
Her new resources, You’re Already Amazing LifeGrowth Guide and DVD, which are companions to the original book, released yesterday! This is a study that delves deeper into the questions, exercises, and tools from You’re Already Amazing. With them, you’ll get sound wisdom on who God says you are, tools for uncovering your strengths skills, who you’re called to serve, creating your mission statement, and more.
Spending time with these tools is transformational. They aided in taking me from weighed down and anxious to light and directed. The LifeGrowth Guide is a treasure trove of truth and freedom. While I used the materials myself, they are also great for small groups and larger study groups.
I’ll leave you with these excerpts, which were light bulb moments for me:
We don’t have to live exhausted, stressed out lives. When Jesus promised life to the full, he meant it (see John 10:10).
Being disconnected from who you really are leads to depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and a host of other troubles. Sometimes it can even be fatal. And contrary to popular belief, women who understand and are secure in their own identities are less selfish, not more. Being free from insecurity allows us to serve and offer the world what only we can.
We are closer to and most like Jesus when we are fully being who he created us to be.
I received a copy of the LifeGrowth Guide and DVD in exchange for participating in the launch team. All opinions expressed here are my own.
