The Valentine Box

The Valentine Box

These days, simplifying is the way to go for us. So,when my friend, Britta LaFont, invited me to participate in a simple, fun Lenten project, I was happy to agree.

Introducing the Meet Me in the Middle Project, a look at the ways in which living happens between starting and the end product, reflecting the heart of the Gospel message. On Wednesdays during Lent, I will be posting before and after pictures and the lesson learned in the middle.

To kick it off, I offer you the Valentine box. When Anthony and Grace came home from school needing to make decorated boxes for their class Valentine cards, my attitude was less than stellar. I viewed it as just another thing to add to my too-long to do list.

However, helping Anthony ended up being mostly directing him in a project he thoroughly enjoyed. I realized this: God invites us to participate in the work of creation. In doing so, we reflect His image.

And that’s pretty cool.

I’m linking up with others in the Meet Me in the Middle Project. You can find those Before and After pictures with reflections HERE.

  1. Love it Mandy! So true. I have to say school projects are on my least favorite list…in a few weeks we have to choose between making hard tack (like sailors used to eat!) and a from-scratch white cake…yikes! But, remembering that I am reflecting His image will help me keep a good attitude. And I might even enjoy myself! ;)

  2. Mandy, I sure needed this reminder today. I have a Monday morning attitude on Wednesday! “God invites us to participate in the work of creation. In doing so, we reflect His image.” I LOVE that. Thank you.

  3. Love this! And, you know, I’m grateful Cate & Ben are making their valentines boxes AT SCHOOL. All the mommas said, “Amen!” :) Creating things is God’s work and I’m grateful we get to part of that in both ordinary and extraordinary ways. Love you, Mandy!
