You’re Loved No Matter What {A Book Review}

Do personality assessments intrigue you? I think they’re so much fun!

And oh, so revealing…

Myers-Briggs? INFJ.

Temperament? Melancholic-Phlegmatic.

Life roles? Creator, Pioneer, Teacher.

Love Language? Quality Time.

Sacred Pathways? Sensate, Contemplative, Intellectual.

I’m excited {of course} that my friend Holley Gerth’s newest book is out. It’s about…

Perfectionism.

More specifically, Holley writes about finding freedom from pervasive perfectionism by becoming confident in our true identities–children wholly, unconditionally loved by God.

She discusses how ceasing to strive for the impossibility of earthly perfection frees us to be the people God created us to be. While Scripture reveals our collective identity, we often overlook cultivating our individual identities.

Enter the fun personality assessments!

Holley summarizes them in You’re Loved No Matter What, along with many other quizzes, checklists, questions for reflection, prayers, and a guide for delving deeper.

She balances practical help with encouragement, inspiration, and truth, reminding readers that we are here on earth to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. She writes:

Perfectionism kills love. The two simply can’t coexist. One is about performance, and the other is about relationship. One is self-focused, and the other has the courage to reach out to another. One keeps us enslaved to the standards of someone else, and the other releases us to freely offer all of who we are.

Holley’s words have impacted me greatly in the past, and this book is no different. Reading it is like sitting across the table from a good friend who looks at you and says, “I can help with that. Let’s lighten your load.”
